Social Value

Becoming Better. Being Better.

Social value is at the heart of what we do. In the last two years, despite the challenges of Covid-19, we have continued to drive social value, creating lasting legacies:

£114,000,000
of social value in 2021 and...
1,663
young people engaged
34
careers events attended
24
work experience opportunities given
16
new jobs created
6
apprenticeships started
3
supply chain collaboration events

A key driver of the Government’s economic and social value policies is to maximise employment and skills opportunities through public sector investments. It is our responsibility to support our public sector clients in delivering best value. To achieve this, we offer a dedicated Skills and Engagement Co-ordinator, Matt Bust, to manage our employment and training commitments on our projects.

Meet Matt Bust, our social value champion:

Matt is a Construction and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Ambassador, with over 10 years’ experience of working in schools and colleges to deliver programmes of engagement activities and social value.

Matt is responsible for delivering the company’s B.I.G Partnership, a partnership between Woodhead Construction and a number of schools and colleges including Chesterfield College and The Bolsover School. The B.I.G Partnership is a 2 year partnership to deliver employability skills and careers advice into schools.

Considerate Constructors Scheme:

We were the very first SME Considerate Constructors Scheme Partner and the first SME to deliver an “Ultra Site”.

Our record:
