Nottinghamshire construction Manager Anthony Leach is celebrating as he took the award for Regional Site Manager of the Year Award at the LABC Warranty Site Manager Awards.
LABC Warranty works in partnership with LABC (Local Authority Building Control) throughout England and Wales to provide new home and structural warranties.
The Site Manager Awards, which were held at the East Midlands Conference Centre last Friday, recognises and rewards site managers who have achieved excellence in construction.
LABC Warranty Risk Management Surveyors are responsible for nominating site managers and nominated Anthony following his work managing a new build construction site on Scarborough Road in Bilsthorpe for Newark and Sherwood Homes. The development comprised the construction of 25 high quality and affordable bungalows to accommodate local people aged 55 years or above.
With over 2,000 eligible site managers at the start of the competition, Anthony faced some tough competition. Mike Swatton, LABC Warranty Business Development Director and Head Judge commented, “The quality standard of the nominees across the board has been unprecedented, once again raising the bar for next year’s nominees.”
Anthony Leach began working at Woodhead five years ago following redundancy from his previous employment, where he had started an apprenticeship in joinery. He said: “I was lucky enough to be able to complete the final year of my apprenticeship with Woodhead. Having worked for a while on site I decided that I’d like to work towards becoming a site manager.
“I really enjoy that side of construction as no two days are the same and you have to be able to problem solve under pressure. I enrolled on Woodhead’s site management training programme in 2011 and had the opportunity to assist the site managers on some of the projects I was working on, which was really valuable experience.
“Since finishing my training I have managed five projects, ranging from new build housing developments to University academic training centres. The varied experience of all of these projects combined has helped me to reach this point in my career. I didn’t even expect to be nominated for the award, so to win was an amazing surprise.”
