Priory Court Extra Care Facility

Overview

Priory Court in Worksop is a high quality 52 bed residential extra care scheme, which was designed to replace a disused 25 bed residential care home, Abbey Grove, which previously sat on the site. At a value of £8.6m, the project was procured through Efficiency East Midlands Ltd and proceeded from Autumn 2017 to Winter 2019. The redevelopment of the facility ran by Bassetlaw District Council has contributed dramatically to regenerating the area by reducing a hotbed for anti-social behaviour and providing a stunning new focal point.

Extra Care offers a real alternative to long-term care as it supports older people with social care needs to live as independently as possible. The stand out from the crowd aspect in this project is the addressing of the acute need for elderly care provisions with 10 spaces specifically for assessing patients’ needs following hospital stays. This will free up valuable beds and enable occupational therapists to work with people outside of hospitals, in turn supporting the NHS.

Funding was secured by Homes England and Nottinghamshire County Council who plan on providing another 37 Extra Care places funded by themselves.

Each apartment has been designed to be accessible for older adults and feature a level access shower, accessible kitchens and wheelchair turning circles. The onsite care team support residents in Extra Care apartments to meet their daily living needs, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are also able to respond to care emergencies or unplanned care needs as quickly as possible.
